India's 2010 TR35: Top Innovators Under 35
Vishal Gupta, 32
Seclore Technology
Plugging data security loopholes.
Information and its control travel together. Vishal Gupta, founder and CEO of Seclore Technology, has developed the innovative Seclore FileSecure and Seclore InfoSource, the two noted products in the field of information rights management (IRM) and secure outsourcing. The information security management solutions provide persistent end-to-end information protection for secure outsourcing and document usage control. However, Seclore's expertise lies in protecting data post distribution, irrespective of its location and mode of transfer.
Seclore FileSecure is a document usage rights management solution which allows owners of documents to control its usage before and even long after the documents have been circulated. This means that documents shared with internal and external parties can be "remote controlled." "Documents shared can be controlled for who has access to the documents, what the user can do with the documents (view, edit, print, forward), when he can use them and where (in the office, at home)," explains Gupta.
At the end of the process it is also possible to revoke the usage rights to the document so that the document can thereafter no longer be opened by the receiving party. Documents can also be programmed and scheduled for self destruction! A complete audit trail of the document flow and its usage is maintained centrally in line with the recommendations of ISO 27001 or SOX 404.
The second product, Seclore InfoSource enables organizations to outsource with confidence, eliminating the risk of having digital data privy to unintended recipients. This means that confidential information which enterprises share with process outsourcing vendors for the purpose of data entry, statement/bill printing, or support can be secured against leakage and misuse. Seclore InfoSource allows companies to control usage of information to trusted computers, trusted users, trusted applications, specific time period, and specific number of use. It allows enterprises to control and restrict the usage of the data which is shared for a specific purpose and also allows for self destruction of the information after its legitimate use.
"Vishal's technology has the potential to completely kill piracy of digital information, be it media, confidential IP, chemical formulas, or missile and submarine design drawings," says Rahul Kopikar, cofounder and head of business development, Seclore Technology.
Gupta's product is a disruptive technology for the world at large where corporate data leakage is rampant. In a world where allegiance to a corporation is ephemeral, his technology can play a crucial role in providing a digital fortress by securing information and preventing it from getting misused.
